Aerosol Generators for Solids

Aerosols are defined as a mixture of air with different types of particles, e.g., drops, dust, and pollen, in the size range from about 1 nm ̶ 200 µm. For functional comparison of filters or particle measurement devices, defined test aerosols with solid particles are needed. All Palas aerosol generators fulfill the requirements of the VDI guideline 3491.

Depending on the aerosol generator model, the test particles can be generated from solutions (e.g., NaCl, KCl), from suspensions (e.g., biological aerosols), from powders or dust (e.g., pollen, A1 ̶ A4 dust), from monolithic solids (e.g., chalk) or by condensation or combustion processes.

Test aerosols or test particles are generated with the highest dosing constancy and best reproducibility. Test aerosols can be generated with mass flows - depending on the model - ranging from some µg/h up to more than 7.3 kg/h. The test aerosols' particle size distribution is around 1 nm up to 200 µm and can be set depending on the model and aerosol substance, mono oder poly disperse.

Palas RBG Series Aerosol Generators

For more than 25 years, the RBG system has been used worldwide with great success for the reliable dispersion of non-cohesive powders such as mineral dusts, active pharmaceutical ingredients, pollen, etc., in the size range of < 200 μm and with a fine fraction of < 100 nm. Monolithic solid materials like blackboard chalk are finely dispersed with the highest dosing constancy.

Palas LSPG 16890 Aerosol Generator for ISO 16890

With the conversion of the test standards for general room air filters from EN 779 to ISO 16890, an additional test aerosol (potassium chloride – KCI) with particle sizes of up to 10μm is required, which needs to remain stable even at low flow rates. Palas is the first manufacturer to produce such an aerosol generator for the the precise testing of filter media. The Palas LSPG 16890 also enables stable and reproducible atomization of NaCl (sodium chloride) and other salt solutions. The Palas LSPG 16890 is available as a standalone instrument and is also used in the latest Palas MFP series filter testing systems to test to ISO 16890.

Palas AGK 2000 Aerosol Generator

Solid particle aerosols produced from suspensions with biological agents, and solutions such as NaCl and KCl, are required for numerous applications in research, development, and quality assurance. NaCl / KCl aerosols or aerosols produced from biological agents are prescribed as test aerosols in various standards to ensure the comparability of filter media, measuring equipment, and filters. Test aerosols, to deserve to be called such, must be generated consistently in terms of particle size distribution and particle concentration over the test time period. Furthermore, it must be possible to reproducibly produce particle size distribution and concentration.

Palas BEG 1000 Series Powder Dispersers

Palas BEG 1000/ 2000 series powder dispersers for the precise generation of test aerosols from powder, dust, pollen and other materials with a mass flow of approximately 8 g/h to 7.3 kg/h. Many research, development, and quality assurance applications require solid particle aerosols from powders and dusts. The Palas BEG 1000 series powder dispersers have been successfully used for decades for the reliable dispersion of non-cohesive powders, for example to generate test dusts and flame soot within the size range of less then 100nm to 200µm.

The Palas BEG 2000 is equipped with automatic mass flow control. For this purpose, the dosing unit on the BEG 2000 is continuously weighed. The data is constantly recorded and evaluated by a touchscreen PC via a serial interface. The dispersed dust quantity is known continuously and can be automatically readjusted.

The palas BEG 3000 is same as BEG 2000, except, the refilling system, with a dosing unit and large storage container ensures continuous dispersion without interruption over several days

Palas DNP Digital 3000 Nano Particle Aerosol Generator

The Palas DNP Digital 3000 is a state-of-the-art aerosol generator designed for the generation of nano-scale test aerosols from graphite, silver (Ag), gold (Au), copper (Cu) and other materials through condensation. Carrier gas: Nitrogen or Argon. Particle measurement devices should be calibrated using aerosols / particles with characteristics (shape, size, density, surface condition, and refractive index) that are similar to those of the actual aerosols the customer wishes to measure.
