Aerosol Spectrometers

The success of the Palasaerosol spectrometers is based on the development of the measurement method with a white light source, 90° scattered-light detections, and an optically defined measurement volume by the University of Karlsruhe, KIT.

Today, it is the world's only optical measurement method that ensures precise particle and concentration determination over a wide measuring range of up to 106 particles/cm3.

2008 the development led to the welas® digital system (White Light Aerosol spectrometer System) with patented T-aperture technology. The patented optical fiber technology allows reliable quasi-simultaneous measurement at two measurement points with one device and in chemically aggressive waste gases.

Palas offers with the model groups welas® digital, Promo®, and Fidas® the most modern, reliable, and scientifically most thoroughly investigated optical aerosol spectrometers in the world.

Optical aerosol spectrometers (OAS, ISO 21501-1, VDI 3867-4) and optical particle counters (OPC, ISO 21501-4) show different characteristics. Read more about the substantial difference.

Palas Promo Series Aerosol Spectrometers

The Promo® aerosol spectrometer system was developed for continuous process monitoring and is based on the welas® digital technology. Besides particle size distribution and particle concentration, up to 36 static distribution parameters are continuously measured with a minimum temporal resolution of 1 s.

Unique is up to four measuring ranges in only one device:

  • 0.12 µm – 3.5 µm (additionally in welas® 1000 and Promo® 1000)
  • 0.2 µm – 10 µm
  • 0.3 µm – 17 µm
  • 0.6 µm – 40 µm
  • 2 µm – 100 µm (additionally for sensors 2300 and 2500).

welas® digital system and Promo® system are famous for up to 128 size channels per measuring range and a concentration range from < 1 particle/cm3 to 106 particles/cm3.

Using various interfaces, such as Modbus, Promo® can be integrated into process control systems and operated with external software.

Unique in the world: The broad spectrum of easily exchangeable welas® aerosol sensors enables perfect matching of the measurement technology with the particle spectrum (120 nm to 100 µm) to be measured in particle concentrations of < 1 particle/cm3 up to 106 particles/cm3, also in overpressure up to 10 barand temperatures of -120 °C to 470 °C.

Calibration can be performed on-site independently by the customer!

FIDAS 200

Palas Fidas 200 EN16450 Approved Dust Monitor

The Palas Fidas 200 is a state-of-the-art EN 16450 & MCERTS approved compliance level fine dust measurement device for the simultaneous measurement of PM2.5 and PM10 while providing 64 high resolution particle size channels from 180nm to 18um providing users with extraordinary measurement data. Weather stations and sensors are also available and may also be used with this powerful monitoring system. The Palas Fidas 200S particulate monitor was explicitly developed for environmental regulatory monitoring.

FIDAS FROG (Portable Aerosol Spectrometer)

Palas Fidas Frog Portable High Resolution Dust Monitor

The fine dust measurement device Fidas® Frog allows for a fast, reliable, and quality-assured determination of fine dust, e.g., monitoring within the scope of Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) management at workplaces (exposure assessment) or in the range of indoor air quality measurements (e.g., for offices, public buildings such as schools, passenger compartments...).

It simultaneously measures the environmentally relevant mass fractions PM1, PM2.5, PM4, PM10, and TSP, as well as the particle number and the particle size distribution within the particle size range of 0.18 – 93 µm. By providing fine dust values with high time resolution, the operator receives comprehensive information for evaluation and assessment of the fine dust pollution for the investigated application.

The very compact and light design as a portable hand-held monitor with either battery or mains power operation and the operation time of up to 8 hours per battery charge allow for a flexible application of the Fidas® Frog at any measurement sites.
